If you’ve ever glanced at my journey to wellness logs, you likely noticed I drink a lot of tea. I mean A LOT. Usually five cups a day.
It wasn’t always this way. Having read an article about the health benefits of green tea years ago I decided to start drinking it. The first cup I ever made tasted awful to me. It reminded me of a farm with a grass like taste and I could barely finish it. I had bought a massive box of green tea bags only to find I hated the stuff.
I didn’t want to quit or waste, so I started experimenting with sweeteners and adding various milks. I found a mix of green tea, sugar, and milk that I could enjoy. But this left me with a dilemma. I wanted to drink the tea, but I didn’t want to cancel out its health benefits by adding lots of sweeteners.
Two things helped me condition myself to drink (and eventually enjoy) plain green tea regularly:
- A plan to wean myself off the sweeteners and milk added
- Identifying the brand and style of green tea I liked the best (there are many options).
The Plan: This is what I followed for three weeks to get myself used to drinking plain green tea. Once there, I jumped from drinking one cup of plain green tea a day to five in very little time. The key was acquiring the taste. Give the three week plan a shot. If you get stuck on one day and really hate the taste, go back to the previous day’s recipe until you get more comfortable there, then try moving forward.
I hope this plan helps you acquire a taste for plain tea like it did for me. I love drinking tea each day and have found it to have benefits to my health beyond what I ever could have imagined. Wishing you all the best as you embark on this journey!
