We are about to ring in 2019. That makes 21 Day Fix more than 5 years old. And yet, as I look at my options for maintaining and improving my fitness this New Year there are 5 key reasons it will absolutely be my go to work out series yet again this year.
#1: Variety in types of workouts. I always aspire to cross train and maximize my fitness, but when I set out on my own one of two things happens. Either variety goes out the window and a do the same exercise over and over, or (more likely) I get overwhelmed trying to mix things up and end up doing nothing. By simply doing 21 Day Fix I complete circuit training, yoga, Pilates, plyometrics, cardio conditioning, and strength conditioning. There is great variety in every workout without having to really think about it. Plus, the variety keeps the workouts from getting boring.
#2: 30 minute long workouts. Period. Every single workout is truly 30 minutes long or at the very least within 2 minutes of that, sometimes on the shorter end. This includes the warm up and cool down. I’ve done workouts that claim to be 30 minutes, but there is an optional warm up and cool down you can tack onto it if you are into that sort of thing. I am, but I want my workout to actually be the 30 minutes I was promised. I’ve also done workouts that claim to be 30 minutes long but with warm up and cool down included are more like 40+ minutes. After the promised duration has passed, every minute feels like an eternity. These workouts really, truly, are 30 minutes long!
#3: Very little equipment required. To get through 21 Day Fix you will need two sets of hand weights. A light one, and a heavy one. That’s it. Maybe a mat if you want, but your floor or a beach towel would be perfectly fine for the most part. No elastic bands, pull up bars, weightlifting benches, or any of that. And if you don’t have hand weights, some soup cans from your kitchen or gallon jugs filled with water can work in a pinch. You don’t need to buy a bunch of gym equipment to do this workout plan.
#4: Built in recovery without taking days off. The workouts are set up in a way that allow me to work out every day without overworking any particular muscle group. In the past here was my pattern for workout out in the New Year:
- Step 1: get really inspired and go way too hard on day 1.
- Step 2: Wake up on day 2 so sore I needed 3 recovery days before I could work out again.
- Step 3: Lose interest in working out more by the time I recovered from day 1.
This bad pattern is not an issue with 21 Day Fix. The workouts are tough, but if you follow the schedule, you are always exercising with muscles that didn’t have to work as hard the day before, and can keep going every single day, never losing interest or that feeling of accomplishment.
#5: Challenging workouts that can suit any fitness ability. The workouts are tough and will get you in great shape if you stick with them. However, when you first start and are not in great shape, you can easily modify the workouts to match your fitness ability. You complete each workout for one minute, the timing is clear, and you can perform the exercises at your own pace, and modify the moves as needed to match your fitness level. You never have to feel like you are sitting things out if you aren’t ready for a particular move. Plus, there are clear breaks between moves and you can easily hit pause if you need a bit more recovery time in the early days.
I have tried many other workout programs and plans. I have access to everything that Beachbody has to offer through Beachbody on demand, and yet time and again I come back to 21 Day Fix. If you haven’t already, give it a shot!
